What have I learnt about genre?

Genre is a way of categorising films, books, magazines etc. Audiences recognize genre through convention such as;
-  Iconography
- Plot
- Characters
- Setting
- Music
- Stars
- Mode of narrative development
I have also learnt that genres are not closed but partly open systems which need to stay in the same order to survive in the media industry by doing this they need to retain the possibility of change and innovation.However it could be argued that genres simply reproduce existing social relations. The genre cycle, this is the process of how to keep a genre interesting for the audiences. For example horror films became very popular because it was a new genre, after a while though the audience was no longer getting scared by the story lines being produced so the producers had to think of a new way of scaring them to keep them interested.
Another part of genre we have learnt is the term hybrid, this is when two or more genres have been put together in order to keep audiences interested. For example Romance and Comedy, other wise known as a RomCom. Sub Genre is another term we have learnt within the last 3 lessons, this is when categories are broken down within a genre for example, Sci- Fi can be broken down into sub genres such as;
-Time Travel
- Space
- Aliens
I believe that hybrid and sub genre reaches out to a wider audience attraction viewer they wouldn't normally, by evolving little things to keep the viewers happy and interested in what they are producing.
